The new agreements guarantee clean and reliable energy supply, while strengthening our commitment to operational efficiency and to the development of the territories where we operate. This is a key decision for projecting the future of the company and the regions in which we operate,\u201d said CMP\u2019s CEO, Francisco Carvajal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Until 2025, CMP operated with approximately 35% of its energy coming from renewable sources. With the entry into force of these new contracts, the company reaches 100% clean energy, ensuring continuous 24\/7 supply thanks to a solar project with a battery energy storage system (BESS) developed by Atlas Renewable Energy in the Atacama region.<\/p>\n<p>CMP\u2019s energy matrix transition will prevent the emission of 498,870 tonnes of CO\u2082 equivalent (tCO\u2082e) in a single year. This reduction is comparable to removing 116,237 vehicles from circulation, driving around the world 51,009 times, or capturing carbon equivalent to planting 8,247,370 trees.<\/p>\n<p>This shift aligns with Chile\u2019s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and accelerates a structural, permanent, and non-compensatory emissions reduction, enabling real decarbonization of CMP\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBy operating with a 100% renewable energy matrix, CMP significantly reduces its carbon footprint and makes a concrete contribution to the country\u2019s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, demonstrating that mining can be an active part of the solution to the climate challenge,\u201d added the CEO.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Key benefits of this transition include a significant reduction in CO\u2082 and other greenhouse gas emissions, the elimination of fossil fuel use\u2014such as coal\u2014alignment with international ESG standards and national and global climate commitments, as well as improved environmental performance in the territories where the company operates.<\/p>\n<p>In line with this strategy, CMP is encouraging its supplier companies to adopt policies and actions aimed at measuring and reducing their emissions and carbon footprint\u2014such as electromobility and the use of renewable energy\u2014with the goal of advancing collaboratively toward more sustainable mining.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new contracts position CMP as a benchmark in sustainable mining, with renewable, reliable, long-term electricity supply.
