Caldera inaugurates Veterinary Clinic with Advanced Diagnostic Capacity
Compañía Minera del Pacífico made a significant donation of equipment that will enable timely animal diagnosis, contributing to a faster and more effective response to veterinary emergencies.
After nine years of waiting, the commune of Caldera fulfilled one of its long-held aspirations with the inauguration of the Municipal Veterinary Center, a facility dedicated to animal care and welfare. The project was funded by Chile’s Undersecretariat for Regional and Administrative Development (SUBDERE) and the Municipality of Caldera, with support from Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) through the provision of key equipment for its launch.
CMP’s donation includes specialized veterinary and clinical equipment designed to strengthen diagnostic capabilities, hospitalization and safe animal handling, contributing to more timely and effective emergency care.
“For several years we have been working collaboratively with the municipality. This project responds to a local aspiration and to a vision of sustainable development that includes animal care, pet welfare and public health. We strongly believe in collaborative work and in partnerships that provide concrete solutions to local needs. This public-private initiative —bringing together the municipality, the government, our company and other stakeholders— makes it possible today to have an operational veterinary clinic serving people and the territory,” said Sandra Ortiz, Superintendent of Community Relations and Territorial Value at CMP.
The municipal veterinary clinic features 100 square meters of infrastructure, including a waiting room, consultation room, operating theater, sterilization room, post-operative area, medication room, archives, reception area, three restrooms and a kitchenette.
“These 100 square meters fill us with pride. Thanks to funding from SUBDERE, the local government and contributions from private partners such as CMP, we now have a laboratory that will allow us to conduct tests and provide accurate diagnoses for animal treatment,” said Brunilda González, Mayor of Caldera.
SUBDERE representatives also highlighted the project’s local and regional impact.
“We are very pleased with the inauguration of this municipal veterinary clinic, which reflects the Municipality of Caldera’s commitment to responsible pet ownership and animal care. This is a milestone not only for the commune but also for the region, and we hope it will support the continued development of municipal veterinary clinics in other communities,”
said Juan José Moreno, Head of the SUBDERE Regional Unit in Atacama.
With the launch of the Municipal Veterinary Center, Caldera takes a concrete step toward strengthening animal welfare, public health and responsible pet ownership, demonstrating how public-private collaboration can drive high-impact social projects aligned with the sustainable development of the territory and its people.
