CMP recognized at FOREDE 2026 for its contribution to sustainability and regional development

Thanks to its contribution to the regional economy through the strengthening of local suppliers, the development of a 100% renewable energy mix, and its circular economy model for recovering iron from mining tailings, the company received these recognitions.

Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) received two awards at the tenth edition of FOREDE 2026, in the Sustainability and Investment and Development categories. These distinctions highlight initiatives aimed at promoting more responsible mining, encouraging the efficient use of resources, and contributing to the productive development of the Atacama Region.

“We have received two awards: one related to the sustainability of our operations and the other to local investment development. Both are very important, as they reaffirm our commitment to the Atacama Region and to local suppliers, who have been fundamental pillars of CMP’s development and growth over the years,” said CMP General Manager Carlos Espinoza.

One example of this commitment is Planta Magnetita, a circular economy initiative that recovers iron from copper mining tailings and transforms it into iron concentrate, reintegrating it into a new production chain. In 2025, the plant processed more than 24.8 million tonnes of tailings and directly recirculated 97% of the water extracted from the reprocessed tailings, helping maximize the use of existing resources and improve process efficiency.

Strengthening regional supplier companies is another key focus of CMP’s efforts to contribute to economic growth in the areas where it operates. Currently, 37% of the company’s purchases go to local suppliers. In addition, local suppliers benefit from payment terms of no more than 15 days, while regional transport SMEs have access to preferential payment terms of seven business days.

These measures aim to facilitate regional companies’ participation in the mining value chain, recognizing their contribution in terms of capabilities, expertise, and services that are essential to the industry’s development. In this context, CMP participated in FOREDE’s business matchmaking sessions to connect capabilities, strengthen relationships, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Through these initiatives, CMP reaffirms its commitment to a mining industry that seeks to generate shared value, advance sustainability, and contribute to the progress of the regions where it operates through responsible management and collaboration with local stakeholders.

FOREDE is the country’s third-largest mining trade fair. It aims to connect major companies in the mining, energy, agriculture, and construction sectors directly with local suppliers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Atacama Region.
