CMP and Carabineros strengthen railway safety campaign ahead of long holiday weekend

The initiative seeks to raise awareness among drivers and pedestrians about the importance of taking preventive measures around railway tracks.

As part of the national holiday commemorating Navy Day on May 21, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP), in coordination with Carabineros de Chile, carried out a new railway safety awareness campaign at the intersection of Cuatro Esquinas Avenue and Route 5 in La Serena.

Representatives from the mining company and Carabineros distributed informational materials, promoting the preventive practice of “stop, look, and listen” before crossing any railway intersection. The main objective was to reinforce the call for self-care and prevention amid the expected increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the long holiday weekend.

This activity is part of CMP’s comprehensive safety plan, which is continuously implemented throughout the territory to reduce risks around railway tracks and surrounding areas. In addition to protecting the community, the campaign also supports the daily work of the company’s operations teams, who safeguard operational continuity through safe practices.

In this regard, Gabriela Lafuente, Superintendent of Puerto Guayacán at CMP, highlighted that: “Safety is a value that goes beyond our operations and is present in every community where we operate. By reinforcing these preventive campaigns, we aim to encourage responsible road-sharing among residents and visitors, because everyone plays a role in self-care.”

Likewise, Carabineros emphasized the importance of this type of joint initiative and called on the public to strictly respect railway signage, especially during periods of high tourist traffic, while maintaining a constant state of alertness to prevent unfortunate accidents.
